There is something quietly powerful about a beauti There is something quietly powerful about a beautifully set table.

The flowers are fresh, the light is golden, the glasses catch the sun just right.

You’ve invited people whose company you genuinely enjoy, and that, more than anything, is what makes a gathering memorable.

Here are five things every good host should remember, whether entertaining socially or for business:

1. A guest should never wonder where to sit.
Guide gently. Hosting is leadership in its softest form.

2. Think beyond the food.
Lighting, music, scent, temperature, pacing — people remember how a space felt long after dessert is gone.

3. Don’t disappear into the kitchen.
Perfection is overrated. Presence is not.

4. Introductions matter.
A thoughtful introduction can turn strangers into conversation partners within minutes.

5. Your guests take their cue from you.
If you are calm, warm, and present, the room will soften around you.

Beautiful entertaining is rarely about extravagance.
It is about making people feel considered.

I grew up in a time when people dressed for work. I grew up in a time when people dressed for work.

I remember watching my mother get ready in the mornings, her skirt suits pressed to perfection, her shoes always matching her handbag, and those beautiful skin-toned stockings she would carefully slip on before stepping into a pair of elegant pumps. That was femininity to me. Grace. Pride. Presence.

My father only wore white shirts from Monday to Friday. Never any other colour. But his collection of ties? Exquisite. He even had a custom-built panel inside his wardrobe just to hang them all, and I’m convinced there were at least 50. His black shoes were always polished, his black socks perfectly paired, and every morning after his shower, he would carefully dry and style his hair before heading to work.

These are some of my earliest memories of my parents. And without even realising it at the time, they shaped me. They shaped the way I viewed dressing, grooming, and presenting oneself when I entered the corporate world almost 15 years ago.

Their standards stayed with me. Their values stayed with me. And to this day, I still place immense importance on dressing and grooming... not because of vanity, but because it reflects the upbringing I was blessed to have and the beautiful culture of care, pride, and self-respect I was introduced to from such a young age.

Perhaps that is why #etiquette and #grooming remain such passionate subjects for me today. And I’m so grateful that I now get to share that world with all of you. ✨
